Large EMITIMES files

Postby pcottle » July 8th, 2013, 4:52 pm

I am using HYSPLIT to track wildfire smoke from multiple sources within a lat-long window. I generated my EMITIMES file using a Pyhton script that used daily IS4FIRES data generated on a 0.5x0.5 grid. The data are provided in units of kg/s which I convert to grams/hour. I model each fire detected on a given day as a point source that emits for 24 hours. The first few lines of my EMITIMES file are as follows:

""
YYYY MM DD HH DURATION(hhhh) #RECORDS
YYYY MM DD HH MM DURATION(hhmm) LAT LON HGT(m) RATE(/h) AREA(m2) HEAT(w)
2012 07 04 00 9999 72
2012 07 04 00 00 2400 38.25 -120.75 0 519455.53422 0.0 0.0
2012 07 04 00 00 2400 46.75 -119.75 0 3377872.10941 0.0 0.0
2012 07 04 00 00 2400 60.25 -118.75 0 1289518.76163 0.0 0.0
.
.
.
""

I set up my run with 72 locations, but leave dummy settings in there for each of them, which has worked for me in the past. However, when I try to run the concentration model with this file, HYSPLIT4 gets as far as opening the simulation log and reports the following:

""

NOTICE main: using namelist file -

Calculation Started ... please be patient

""
At this point nothing happens, no matter how long I wait. I've opened the SETUP.CFG file and it is pointing to the EMITIME file as it should. Does anyone know what might be going wrong with this? Is there perhaps a limit to the number of emitters allowed in the EMITIMES files?

Thanks!

Are you setting 72 sources in the CONTROL file?
